About Us |

Sebeka Sa Kgolo Center of Growth was registred as a Section 21 Company in October of 2008 with plans to start seeking funding in 2009. Our goal is to support our local schools and community development and provide hope for the future. Our staff is small but dedicated to improving our community and our neighboring communities. We have a fresh new approach to education. Although we are new, we have already joined forces with many qualified contributing support people around the country and around the world to assist with our project. Our facility will follow a program designed after a successful children’s Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, but with our own unique features designed to fit our local needs. Sebaka Sa Kgolo Center of Growth (Association Incorporated under Section 21) 2008/04571/08 Mission Statement
Vredefort/Mokwallo has long been a peaceful, stable farming community. Many of the residents have chosen the area over the big city because of those qualities. The crime rate is much lower than that of the larger, faster moving cities and this is also a big attraction for many. We saw a sign entering a town once that said…“The town that Rocks,” Vredefort is “The town that rocks fall on,” having one of the oldest and largest meteors in the world right at its’ gates. The area is now a World Heritage Site and many good things are expected in the future. While the government struggles to salvage communities that are in trouble, we feel it is important to protect the stability of our community. To accomplish this will require an organized, concentrated effort on the parts of many.
When we look around town, we see people who work hard; have very little, and appreciate what they have. We see many young people dying in Mokwallo each week and the mourning for those people by their families. We see a once popular community swimming pool laying idle in decay. We see unattended roads in Mokwallo with dips, and pot holes you could loose a car in, and we see poverty, hunger and like many places in Africa, people begging on the streets. However, we also see celebration, laughter, contented, well behaved children, football games, rarely hear a child cry, and many proud people. We are optimistic and see hope for the future of the community. As individuals we see many needs of the community: better education, job training, living wage, steady employment, a need for HIV/AIDS education program, more business in the area, an organized tourism effort, and a cultural change in the approach to The environment. As a unified community group, we feel we can fill those needs. Our mission: Is to work with people of Vredefort/Mokwallo, forming an alliance with the school community to protect the children by providing a meaningful quality education, and to jointly determine the needs of community residents, and act on those needs accordingly uplifting the community. We feel we can best achieve these goals by supporting education for the community, implementing procedures, searching out funds, responsibly administering such projects, and find ways to make these programs self sustaining. |
